Choose where the material belongs
Open a workspace first. In the left file tree, right-click the destination folder and choose Import Content. Check Import to at the top of the dialog before continuing.
For a novel, you might keep chapters in Manuscript, character notes in Story Bible, and external research in References. These are suggested folder names; use a structure that makes sense for your work.
| Source | What to choose |
|---|---|
| Local Files | .docx, .md, .markdown, or .txt files |
| Folder | A folder containing supported files, including Markdown or Obsidian material |
| Web URL | One or more HTTP or HTTPS page addresses |
| Notion | Pages made available through your Notion authorization |
| Google Docs | Native Google Docs selected through Google Drive |
PDF and older .doc files are not supported by the local-file importer. Export them to a supported format first. An existing GeekArt workspace should be opened with Open Workspace rather than imported as a document.
Import local files or a folder
- In Import Content, select Local Files → Choose Files, or Folder → Choose Folder.
- Select the source material in the system dialog. GeekArt prepares an Import Preview.
- Review the listed items, unsupported files, and warnings. Confirm that the destination is correct.
- Select Start Import and wait for the result. Check the counts of succeeded and failed items.
- Return to the file tree and open an imported document. Check headings, paragraph breaks, and any image or attachment links before you start revising.
Import brings content into workspace documents; it is not a live link back to the original. Keep your original files. Word layout and complex formatting may change during conversion, and image or attachment references may depend on their original location. Import warnings identify details that need a closer look.
Import a web page
Choose Web URL, paste the addresses with one URL per line, and select Preview Import. Review the preview, then select Start Import.
Use the result as reference material and check that the main text was captured. A page that requires a login or blocks automated access may not import. If you can read the material in its original app, export it to a supported local format and use Local Files instead.
Import from Notion
- Sign in to GeekArt, then choose the Notion tab in Import Content.
- Select Connect Notion and complete authorization in the browser. Include the pages you want GeekArt to access.
- Return to the app, find the authorized pages, and select the ones to import. Use Refresh pages if the list needs updating.
- Select Import Selected. Import begins from that selection; check the result when it finishes.
Nested pages are not imported recursively, and Notion databases are not imported. Select each available page you need. If a page is missing, check the pages granted during authorization. Unsupported blocks may be skipped or simplified.
Import from Google Docs
- Sign in to GeekArt and open Google Docs in the import dialog.
- Select Connect and Choose Documents. If already connected, select Choose Google Docs.
- Complete the Google authorization and document selection in the system browser.
- Return to GeekArt. Import starts after selection is complete; check the result and open the imported files.
This route is for native Google Docs. For a Word file stored in Drive, download the .docx and use Local Files. GeekArt accesses the documents you explicitly select and does not edit the Google originals. Imported copies do not stay automatically synchronized with Google Docs.
Check the result and use it as context
Open the imported chapter and at least one supporting note. Check that the text is complete and the file names are easy to recognize. Then tell AI which files to consult:
Read the chapter in Manuscript and the character notes in Story Bible. Identify one continuity issue, name the files you used, and do not edit anything yet.
If a connection reports that it is unavailable or not configured, use a supported local export for now. If an import reports partial success, inspect the successful documents before retrying the failed items.
Next, attach a direction to a passage and review the resulting edit.
