An original GeekArt demonstration story, not a customer manuscript or an AI output log.
These profiles use the same seven sections as the blank character template.

Snapshot: 2026-10-13 / demonstration draft / through Chapter 07, Rainy Harbor.
Chapter 08 exists in the sample project; its later discoveries are not knowledge at this checkpoint.

CONFIRMED = established in the manuscript or settled supporting notes.
PLANNED = proposed for a future passage, not established by the current draft.
OPEN = unresolved. A confirmed statement is not proof that its speaker is correct.

## Mara Venn

### 1. Role and essential facts

- Close-third viewpoint character in Chapters 06–08; narrative in past tense.
- Thirty-two, former harbor clerk; Jonas's older sister by three years.
- Jonas disappeared when Mara was twenty-one. She left Grayhook later that year.
Do not reverse the departure and disappearance.
- Back in Grayhook after Captain Ro's death; carries his ledger and Sera's lantern.
- Her travelling case is still held by customs.
- CONFIRMED sources: Mara's character notes, Timeline, Chapters 06–07.

### 2. Want and pressure

- Initial goal: settle Ro's affairs and leave before the spring tide (character notes).
- Pier-scene goal: get an explanation she can trust without surrendering the ledger.
- Resistance: Jonas wants immediate cooperation while withholding his history.
- Pressure: light and approaching footsteps can expose them near the pier.
- Leverage: possession of the closed ledger; she can refuse to hand it over.
- At the chapter's end she has a new meeting place and a warning about the book,
but no explanation of her brother's absence.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 3. Contradiction and choice

- Refuses to trust Jonas while shielding him from a watchman's light.
- Holds on to the book even when helping him brings her to the pier's edge.
- Narrow practical questions let her keep control of a painful encounter.
- Boundary at this checkpoint: recognizing him does not mean forgiveness or trust.
- OPEN: what evidence, if any, will make her trust a later explanation?
- CONFIRMED sources: Mara's character notes and Chapter 07.

### 4. Relationships

With Jonas:
- Wants an explanation for eleven years missing; withholds the ledger and trust.
- He can refuse information and redirect her attention to danger.
- She tests his identity with a private childhood memory. He recalls the unlatched window.
- State at exit: recognition, continuing anger, practical cooperation, unresolved distrust.

With Sera:
- Receives Ro's ledger and a lantern from an old family friend at the chandlery.
- Knows Sera was questioned about Ro's effects.
- Whether Sera recognized Jonas before this encounter is OPEN.

CONFIRMED sources: character notes, Timeline, Chapters 06–07.

### 5. Voice and attention

- Notices handwriting, weights, missing entries, repaired objects, and habits in hands.
- Asks narrow practical questions when emotion is difficult.
- Voice: precise, dry, sometimes unfair; no immediate speech of reconciliation.
- Draft line: "You don't get to answer that quickly." (Chapter 07)
- Function: refuses Jonas's quick "I know" as an adequate answer to eleven years apart.
- Physical choices include setting down an object before her grip betrays her and
counting steps to gain time. These are options, not required beats in every paragraph.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes, Voice Guide, Chapter 07.

### 6. Knowledge at this checkpoint

- KNOWS: Ro is dead; the book was left for her; Sera was questioned; Jonas is alive.
- HAS HEARD: Jonas says, "The ledger is not evidence. It is bait."
- HAS SEEN: a narrow white chin scar and a pale band at Jonas's wrist.
- DOES NOT KNOW: what is in the ledger; she has not opened it at the pier.
She does not yet know about the missing leaf or the Venn entry found in Chapter 08.
- OPEN: cause of the wrist mark, truth of the bait claim, Jonas's absence, origin of the bell.
- Viewpoint limit: Jonas's private motives cannot be narrated as facts Mara knows.
- CONFIRMED sources: Chapters 06–07 and character notes.

### 7. Next scene and updates

Chapter 07 choices already on the page:
- Request: Mara demands an explanation before giving Jonas the ledger.
- Resistance: he redirects her toward danger and offers incomplete answers.
- Choice: she helps hide him, keeps the book, and receives a meeting instruction.
- Consequence: they can meet at the warehouse steps after the third whistle,
with possession and trust still disputed.

Preserve when revising: ledger stays closed and with Mara; care does not equal forgiveness;
the window memory and whistle order stay intact. Source: Chapter 07.

Later update to make in a separate Chapter 08 checkpoint: add her discovery of the
missing leaf. Do not copy that knowledge backward into this profile. Discovering
its absence does not establish who removed it.

## Jonas Venn

### 1. Role and essential facts

- Mara's younger brother, twenty-nine; missing eleven years and presumed drowned.
- Appears on the ladder below the old pier in Chapter 07.
- Narrow white scar across his chin; pale band at the inside of his wrist.
- The mark's cause is OPEN. Do not add imprisonment, a captor, or a medical diagnosis.
- Not the viewpoint character in this scene.
- CONFIRMED sources: Jonas's character notes and Chapter 07.

### 2. Want and pressure

- Scene goal: conceal the ledger and move Mara away before the next patrol.
- Resistance: she wants answers before cooperation and will not give him the book.
- He has information and can offer a meeting place, but will not explain his absence.
- Immediate pressure: watchmen's light and footsteps; no exact patrol interval is established.
- Long-term purpose: OPEN. The existing draft has not settled the larger mystery.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 3. Contradiction and choice

- Asks for cooperation faster than he is willing to earn trust.
- Uses an intimate childhood memory while withholding the history Mara most wants.
- His caution leaves occasional room for old familiarity with his sister.
- Boundary at this checkpoint: no confession, explanatory monologue, or settled conspiracy.
- OPEN: why these answers are withheld and what might make him give them later.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 4. Relationships

With Mara:
- Wants her to hide the book and leave the exposed pier.
- Withholds where he has been and why he never contacted her.
- She can refuse the book and challenge the speed of his answers.
- Shared memory: she left a window unlatched even in winter.
- State at exit: she recognizes him and has a place to meet him; she still has the ledger.

With Ro:
- Jonas invokes Ro when asking for the ledger.
- How he knew Ro remains unexplained in Chapter 07.
- Do not make a proposed alliance or shared plan a confirmed relationship.

CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 5. Voice and attention

- Short practical requests; questions about immediate danger.
- Looks toward the customs roof and reacts to whistles and footsteps.
- Draft line: "The ledger is not evidence. It is bait." (Chapter 07)
- Function: changes the terms of Mara's decision without explaining who set a trap.
- Each evasion should buy time, redirect Mara, or reveal a limit he cannot cross.
- Avoid making every reply cryptic: a usable instruction can change the scene too.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 6. Knowledge at this checkpoint

- KNOWS: the childhood window memory; Mara has brought the book; where he asks her to meet.
- SAYS: the book is bait; Ro sent her for a reason. These claims are established as speech.
- NOT REVEALED TO MARA: his whereabouts, silence, and relationship with Ro.
- OPEN FOR THE AUTHOR: how much he knows about the ledger's contents or a removed page.
- No completed hidden history is supplied by these notes. Do not fill one in merely
to make his knowledge column longer.
- Viewpoint limit: show his speech and observable behavior through Mara's perspective.
- CONFIRMED sources: character notes and Chapter 07.

### 7. Next scene and updates

Chapter 07 choices already on the page:
- Request: "Give me the ledger."
- Resistance: Mara demands to know what it is and keeps hold of it.
- Choice: he warns her about the book and supplies a meeting instruction.
- Consequence: cooperation can continue at the warehouse steps, but he has not acquired the book.

Preserve when revising: the reason for his absence and the wrist mark stay unresolved;
Mara's recognition does not grant him trust. Source: Chapter 07.

Later update for a Chapter 08 checkpoint: he protects an arm and sets down a wrapped
oilskin square. Record those actions when that checkpoint is reached. The arm's diagnosis
and the parcel's contents remain OPEN; do not identify the parcel as the missing leaf.
